Parties, parties and parties

in my ideal world there is a party for every occasion
and the party is fancy dress

but putting that aside.....

launch party!!!!!!!!!!
or at least a launch event....think about how games do it.
they have the alpha phase, closed beta, capacity test, open beta and then launch.
sometimes capacity test and open beta is mixed together.

but ulimately the site is launched at open beta. coz anyone can join and everything functions. but if it breaks, its ok coz its not "live" and the users sign up to provide feedback on any bugs they find, so its handy.

Then there is launch day! and everyone that logs on, on that day gets something, or has something special
even
if they live in perth...go to a party? maybe?

This idea I like very much. VERY VERY MUCH.

I would totally love to get the local community onboard and invite them on in to a launch party and launch day. This I am definitely going to do.

Plus I guess now that I think about it I could invite some local press along if they wish to scoop the local techy news. I could do an invite event thing on twitter and facebook.

Throw in a little bit of catering, some photos, great exposure!

Yes, yes this is good. That idea deserves a hat on it. Going to think about this tonight and tomorrow. ANYONE ELSE IN THE FORUM PLEASE DEFINITELY PIPE UP AND PUT IN YOUR TWO BIDS ON WHAT YOU THINK OF THIS IDEA, this idea is awesome.

Parties are always a good way to whip up excitement and community involvement and I'm all for it. As for gifts or anything of the like, people tend to love merchandise or something they can have that they use as a trophy to say "I was here", even if it's a one off run of stickers or something.

I know a few techy/ media type people, so I am happy to see if they would be interested in covering, or seeing if they others who may be interested in covering an event like that, and obviously I'm willing to do the same, although I only have about 70-80 unique viewers per week at the moment... so probably not too helpful =P

Yeah this idea of a launch party is something I really like and I would really like to plan something like this, any ideas where and how peeps?

You would need to gauge potential attendees before dedicating yourself to a venue. Street parties can always be fun and community involved, but a lot of headaches in regards to licences and cordoning off streets etc etc.

I'd recommend a known bar and hire out a room for the night and do a launch gig that way, or, depending on what type of site you're actually going with, hiring out somewhere like Capitol club (as pure example), getting some local talent in as entertainment, inviting some known media types and offering limited entry with giveaways and such to build hype but to also give a sense that your service is a sought after thing and that you attract attention.

Hrm, that is a different idea to what delaid was getting at I think, where people not involved in the initial testing get to try out the site, not sure they would be able to do that at a bar?

Although a public event like that isn't necessarily an idea to knock back either, just a different opportunity I guess to get the name of the site out there, one just involves more interactivity on the day by using the site.....I guess people using the mobile web version of the site and the apps when I eventually get those up and running could be incorporated into that idea perhaps
